Great little appliance. Easy to set and use, and fills the house with the gorgeous aroma of fresh ground coffee. That’s a win!!

4yrs still going strongly with new blade update.

4 yrs on multiple grinds daily and I just replaced the upper and lower burr/blades directly from Breville. I just gave my grinder several more years of service. Burr product numbers for this exact model were SP0008610 Upper and SP0008611 for Lower for anyone needing the info

Essential to get the best out of your beans

To be able to grind fresh coffee beans to the proper grain size really does make a huge difference to the taste and enjoyment I get out of a cup of coffee.

What made me buy the grinder is that it takes standard filter handles / porta filters and I prefer a stand-alone grinder to something integrated in the expresso machine.

When the grinder recently failed, I was hugely disappointed. I bought the grinder less than 2 years ago and Breville warranty is 1 year replacement. Spare parts are not available.

After a lot of consideration and encouraged by a friend who has the same grinder now for 4 years without issues I decided to put this down to a one-off early failure and bought another one.

Best value basic grinder

We bought this as a replacement for the same model we've had for 3 years, which had a worn impeller. This one appears to have a steel impeller, so I'm hopeful that issue won't occur again. Upon first use, it became clear how much our old one was labouring. This one is working much faster, grinding evenly, and not getting gummed up inside. However, it makes a huge mess. Grinding directly into the portafilter, grinds spit out all around the machine, and it is impossible to dislodge all the ground coffee once the grinder stops - it generally falls out next time I go to use it, a significant waste when beans are so expensive. Overall, after much research, I still believe this is the best grinder in its price category.

Live to be able to see my grind setting and be able to adjust easily

Health safety and design issue

This product has a design issue with a plastic impeller under the burrs which wears out either still during warranty or just after it finishes. There is too big issues: 1. health - you are ending up eating that plastic with your coffee 2. obviously the product stops working. Another issue is the fact that breville does not seem to supply replacement parts and refuses to admit this is in fact a design issue. In the more expensive smartgrinder they eventually replaced plastic impeller with metal one...

Good consistent results

Very quick and easy to use. The available range for dose control and grind settings is all you would ever need, regardless of coffee preparation type. We use coffee plunger, percolator and espresso machine, and are able to set the grinder accordingly for each type. There is a small amount of static and some retention of ground coffee in the dispenser, but nothing too significant. Would highly recommend.

Good grinder with caveats

This is a great little grinder that provides a wide range of grind settings. It's design is well thought out and is easy to use. I find that dosing straight into a portafilter is very clean with little or no grinds making it to my bench. It even accepts my 51mm portafilter. Even if some grinds make it out, it is very easy to clean - I think that the materials used are anti-static so we don't get them sticking to the surfaces.
I find that the dosing is quite consistent but, and this is why I have only given it a 4 out of 5 stars, it is hard to dial in for an exact dose. When the grind is getting to the coarser end of the espresso range (>10) I find it difficult to get the standard 7gm. A single click on the timer results in a jump from 6 to 8 gms. This is a nuisance forcing me to make adjustments by scooping out the excess for each test shot when I'm dialling in the grind for different beans.
