No successor to the BKE830CLR

We purchased the BKE840CLR to replace our BKE830CLR, which was cracking. Unfortunately, the new BKE840CLR is no successor to the older kettle. It has a much clunkier design, with a ring inside the kettle that catches water making pouring from the kettle inaccurate. The button to open the lid also requires a firm push, rather than a touch, making it more difficult to open. The lid also requires a firm touch to close. Otherwise, it replicates the same functions as the older kettle. It's a shame that I didn't buy the older kettle again, as while this is a newer kettle with a higher model number, this certainly isn't an upgrade.

Excellent unit & exceeded expectations. The controls are excellent & intuitive & we have hardly needed to consult the manual. Beautifully packed & an Australian company & though not made in Australia is a quality unit & to date has performed to our expectations. 
We are two so it has a large capacity & my wife complained it is a bit heavy,… an easy fix! 
Fill it to your requirements (There are clear markings on the glass.),.. Problem solved, 
thank you Breville, David & Maria.
PS My wife selected it, mainly because it is clear & has the multi-temperature settings.

The Smart Kettle which replaced a Smart Kettle with a poorly designed lid

The kettle works ok- boils water. The set up is convenient with the base. Since this is a replacement kettle, because the previous model lid could not be replaced, I am reserving judgement as to it time of use, before a part fails.

The previous model, which this one replaces, as a kettle worked fine, but the lid failed, which I put down to poor design and we could not get a replacement lid as parts were no longer available. 

Must thank Breville for giving us a good discount, but it shouldn't have been necessary for us to have a kettle with probably just on 5 years service being put out of action because of an unreplaceable part, which was not related to the heating/boiling action the kettle.

I really love this kettle! The ability to choose from a variety of temperatures is so appealing as well I love being able to see the bubbles in the kettle once it has boiled! Downside is I have already noticed some rusting on the bottom of the kettle and I’ve only been using for 2 months.

Elegant fast quiet kettle

The new clear smart kettle is a great improvement on an already great product. The elegant cylindrical design looks much nicer and it enables a higher fill capacity. The lid has been improved to really seal the water in. But my favorite quality improvement is the solid stainless steel strainer built into the jug. This acts as a water flow controller preventing boiling water from rushing out. It means I can lift the kettle up high to pour it into my Chai in the traditional way. The easy one-touch temperature settings are very efficient. It's also quick and quiet.

Completely Unreliable

I bought this product nearly a year ago. Loved the temperature setting ability - especially for coffee. But for 6 months now, when I put the kettle back on the base, it won't start because the connector on the base does not connect properly. I can get around this by rotating the kettle and lifting and putting back again.
Now the lid will not rise automatically when I push the release button. I have heard this is a common failure.
Better buy another brand!!

Found it leaking after 1 day

Leaks water through the join between the clear and lower metal section.

Novelty ruined by poor design

I loved my kettle for the first few months - I loved seeing the water boiling through the glass and it was reasonably quiet. The interior base quickly collects a scale build up so I followed the breville website instructions to clean it. 
After the second time cleaning the scale, I noticed the kettle leaked through the base into the top of the electrical base. It regularly started collecting a puddle of water in the base station. I always tried to mop it up and let it dry out before using again.
One day the base seems to have gotten water and now doesn’t work. 
After 13 months of owning this kettle with the fault, I contacted Breville and they offered me a 50% discount on a new product, which was ironically 46% more expensive than when I bought it.
I won’t be giving my money to Breville any time soon.
