| Safety First: Stop juicing and unplug the juicer before disassembling or cleaning it. Wait until the motor has completely stopped. |
If your juicer is producing less juice than usual, leaving wetter pulp, leaking, or spraying juice, the filter basket may need to be cleaned or your juicing technique may need to be adjusted.
The fine mesh holes in the filter basket can become blocked with pulp and fibrous material. Feeding produce too quickly, pressing too firmly on the food pusher, or juicing fibrous ingredients early in the juicing process can also reduce juice flow through the filter basket.
Procedure
- Clean the filter basket.
- Stop juicing, unplug the juicer, and wait until the motor has completely stopped.
- Disassemble the juicer and remove the stainless-steel filter basket.
- Thoroughly clean the mesh walls using the cleaning brush.
- Rinse the filter basket under hot water.
- Hold the filter basket up to a light. You should be able to see through the mesh walls.
- Deep-clean a blocked filter basket.
- If the fine mesh holes remain blocked, soak the filter basket in hot water with 10% lemon juice, approximately 1/4 cup of lemon juice per quart of water.
- If permitted for your model, the filter basket may also be washed on the top rack of the dishwasher.
- After cleaning, hold the basket up to a light again and confirm that you can see through the mesh.
- Use less pressure on the food pusher.
- Press down more slowly and with less force.
- This is especially important if juice is spraying out or the juicer is leaking.
- Use the correct juicing speed.
- If your juicer has multiple speed settings, use the recommended speed for the food you are juicing.
- Refer to the speed chart in your juicer's instruction manual.
- Juice fibrous ingredients last.
- Juice harder, more fibrous foods such as celery and ginger toward the end of your juicing order.
- Their stringy fibers can clog the filter basket more quickly and reduce the amount of juice that can pass through the mesh.
- Clean the filter basket after every use.
- Thorough cleaning after each juicing session helps prevent pulp and fibers from drying inside the fine mesh holes.
After cleaning the filter basket and adjusting your juicing technique, juice should pass more freely through the mesh. If you still cannot see through the mesh after cleaning, or the issue continues, contact customer support for assistance or consider replacing the filter basket.
Notes & Tips
- Do not allow pulp to dry inside the filter basket before cleaning it.
- When using fibrous ingredients, monitor the filter basket for buildup during longer juicing sessions.
- For models with variable speeds, follow the food and speed recommendations in the instruction manual.
