I noticed a leak within the 1year warranty, then the new one had a much slower leak, sadly didn’t notice before the warranty ran out. It works amazing except I need to put it on a tray so it won’t destroy my counters. I tried to contact support but the form won’t accept my serial number so I’m using this forum. I will need a new coffee maker soon since the bottom corroded today. It did last for 6 years so I guess that’s good.

- too mainy pro's to list( to keep make this a short read)
- Received with airmiles ( was initially hesitant with promotional gifts being low quality )
-Use 300 days/year, Serial# of 2046 = manf. 46 week of 2000 and still working great !
- yes maintenance required on anything with moving parts ( we strip grinder parts down and vaccum and brush every 3 months aprox.)
- de-scale with vinager and distilled water when prompted on screen( no need to add more minerals with tap water)
Con's...by design
- for all coffee makers using moulded parts ( not just Breville machines)
- our recent awarness of plastics harmfull for us, would like to see less plastics coming in contact hot liquids
by use...
- not easy to pour all coffee out of insulated pot, until you find technique of,  rocking back and forth when pouring last amount out upside down from pot.
pro's...by design
- great use of proper materials and design for this hard working machine.
- gaskets used to get coffee grinds from grind blades to basket, with deflector to spread out grinds evenly
- meandering escape path built in for soaking coffee in basket incase it flows to slow, preventing overfliowing basket
- removable catch tray for easy cleaning
- operator messages on screen when machine will not start , to help with making sure are parts are in right position and locked in
- even notices if user incorrectly sellects too much grind for given amount of water, no wastefull $ brews
- auditory and visual water overfill indicators,thinking of deaf users also ! 
As a former mech. engineer, It seems German Rockstar Engineer(s) were obsessed with function on build !

Amazing coffee and customer service

I bought the Grind Control 3 years ago. It has always made amazing coffee. The thermal pot keeps the coffee tasting fresh and hot for hours.
I began having problems with the coffee grind chute getting stuck. I reached out to customer service and was hoping they could fix it and I was willing to pay for it (that's how much I love this coffee maker). Customer service was helpful with tips and follow-up. When this didn't work, they replaced my coffee maker! Not what I was expecting. I am very impressed with their service and commitment to their products. I will be purchasing more Breville products in the future.

LACK REPLACEMENT PART

I bought this coffee maker BDC550 with the GLASS carafe a few years ago. Unfortunately the carafe broke and I cannot buy a replacement since the glass carafe is now discontinued. The machine is absolutely beautiful, and I love it. Tried purchasing another universal brand of glass carafe but coffee spills over lid. A waste of money if we cannot get replacement parts. I have other Breville appliances and love the look and functionality of them.

It brewed and brewed until it could brew no more.

We've had this machine for years.  Over the past year it has been slowly dying.  I think it's inner workings are done.  At first it wouldn't descale without resetting several times and then it was having issues selecting the amount of cups and now it will only grind less than a tsp of beans at a time.  Finally it started leaking.  I am only left with using pre ground coffee and have been waiting for it to come on sale.  I know what I paid for it and I know you haven't changed the machine over the years and I am quite sad it seems to far out of my reach.  For years I have recommended it to people and now I can't afford it myself.

Don' waste your money

I have been using the new Breville “the Grind Control” coffee maker for 4 months now. The good: 
The grind process works well, the adjustments for grind size work well and it is reasonably quiet. 
The unit does make good coffee 
The bad: 
The unit only produces lukewarm coffee. Every cup needs to be heated in the microwave to make it reasonably hot. 
The carafe is extremely poorly designed. You have to tip it upside down to pour the coffee out and it is impossible to pour the coffee without having it dribble everywhere. 
The coffee maker itself requires a lot of maintenance & cleaning and it is very awkward and messy to clean.

If you like luke warm coffee

I purchased this machine and returned it in less than a week. It was brewing individual cups of coffee at 141.5-143.4F and pots of coffee 138.5-140.2F. Barely any steam coming off a cup of coffee. I drink my coffee black and would consider 138-140F lukewarm at best. By the second cup, it needed to be heated in the microwave. 

I kept the strength and grind settings right in the middle and every pot of coffee had grounds in it. The basket overflows with every pot.

Many of the reviews said it was difficult to clean. I ignored this thinking it wouldn't be so bad, I was wrong. 

Difficult to believe this machine has been on the market as long as it has.

My old friend Breville coffee maker

My old friend Breville coffee maker wasn't working anymore, I tried buying a french press but it did not come close to my Breville. I used to take it to the cottage with me I loved it so much. It was not under warranty anymore but I contacted Breville to see if they could fix it. It would cost $200 which included postage and repair so I sent it to be fixed. It was very easy to send it back, they supplied paid postage. The service was exceptional. They kept me informed at every step.  Unfortunately they could not fix it but they sent me a brand new NEWER version. I was so surprised. I am so happy to have my Breville coffee maker again. Thanks Breville !
