Good and Does The Job

The "Dose Control" is a good yet basic conical cone coffee grinder. On the plus side it provides a consistent ground coffee size. On the negative side, the port filter requires that it be removed from the grinder and the freshly ground coffee tamped down midway through through the grinding operation (because the portafilter is overflowing with ground coffee), and then reinserted for more ground coffee to fill the remainder of the portafilter. Because the portafilter overflows midway through the fill operation, this creates a mess of ground coffee at the bottom of the portafilter.

the Dose Control Model 400SIL

I acquired my new grinder last week and find it's brilliant as to producing a grind that is very smooth, 100% all Crema. It took very little adjustment. I recommend one read the Instruction book very carefully.
I have a one year old Breville Infuser Unit and this is an excellent marriage so far. Not having a timer is no problem for me. I'm at 12-13 seconds of grinding and #13 on the grind setting. The only drawback I would mention is the short power cord.
For my set up I need another foot of cord. Clean out the grinder every 2-3 weeks with white rice and before each grind pop out the grinds that are sitting there from the previous use before you grind.
I don't use oily dark beans ......more frequent cleaning is required if you do.

Excellent grinder for my family

I received this grinder as a gift from my wife. It was recommended by a friend as a reliable and efficient coffee grinder capable of an espresso grind. I am still learning the many variables to preparing coffee, this unit definitely makes it a breeze. I use it every morning for pour overs and my wife uses for her instant coffee machine reusable pod. I also use it regularly for my manual espresso press. I am extremely pleased with the results so far. With 60 grind settings available, I have not had any issues getting the correct grind for my application.

6 month coffee grinder

Bought the coffee machine and the grinder 6 months ago. I love both products but the coffee grinder started to make weird noises. I thought it was clogged but it seems the impelernos already worn out. AFTER ONLY 6 months!!! I did not know that is a very common issue with their machines. I have warranty but I am having tremendous problems to be able to have it fixed. Please be aware of this before buying the grinder. I hope the engeniers is breville/sage fix that because it’s seems it’s a recurrent issue in their grinders.

Quality Precision Grinder

This is a replacement grinder for one I had purchased in June/22. The first one suddenly stopped working. The online and telephone support did not come through initially. Eventually all was resolved. Breville sent me a replacement grinder. It works just like the other. I am happy with the quality and precision of the grind. I can dial in the perfect espresso, drip or French press coffee. Plus it looks great next to my Breville espresso machine.

Disappointing replacement for Smart Grinder

I had a Breville Smart Grinder that I adored. It died suddenly and in attempting to fix it myself, I shorted it out and killed it for good. I replaced it with this inadequate model because the Smart Grinder had become so much more expensive. This one doesn’t stop on its own, so you have to monitor it. It’s noticeably cheaper in construction, more plastic less metal. You can’t take it as fully apart. Just been a disappointment in comparison.

Simple but effective grinder.

This grinder works perfectly for me. It is very consistent with enough settings to get the right grind for my espresso maker. I use it as a single dose grinder by weighing out my beans for each espresso shot. I make small adjustments for the different beans and I've been very happy with it so far. Some of the earlier models had a plastic piece that would wear out and cause problems, the new models have replaced it with stainless steel.

Breville Dose Control

The Dose Control was a replacement for my old BCG-450XL. Grind times with the old unit were getting longer and longer, presumably due to a worn burr; however, that unit has been discontinued, and a replacement burr is no longer available. In addition, certain beans from custom roasters simply clogged the grind chamber, something that I believe was a combination of the worn burr and worn plastic impeller.

So far (about a month) the Dose Control is doing a great job. It's far quieter and faster than the old unit. I'm not as fond of the light weight plastic body in comparison, but it seems serviceable. The Dose Control seems to generate much less static also, which may partly be due to my using my own glass grind receptacle rather than the plastic bin that came with the BCG-450XL.

Longevity has yet to be determined, but so far I'm very happy with the Dose Control.
