Check and set water hardness
When using your Breville Dual Boiler™, you will be prompted to test for levels of water hardness. This refers to the amount of minerals in the water you use to brew your espresso. Overly hard water can have a negative effect on the taste of your coffee, so knowing your water hardness level is crucial. We show you a 3-step system to explain how you can test your water using the Breville Dual Boiler™, and offer solutions for anyone who has hard water in their home. 1) Remove and fill the water tank of your Breville Dual Boiler™ and dip a test strip into the water. Replace the tank back into the machine. 2) When you see your results on the strip, enter them into the machine by using the “up” and “down” keys.If your results are high (4 or 5), we recommend using a filter to produce a softer water, otherwise, you may find lower quality in your coffee's taste and overall machine maintenance trickier. Note that distilled or zero-mineral water is not recommended for this machine.
