Coffee Beans

It’s easier than ever to find out the origin of your coffee, but you still need to know what to look out for to make the most of it.

Provenance is everything

“Before the third wave movement, coffee was seen as a commodity. Today, on a bag of specialty coffee, you’ll get information like the variety, the country where it was grown, the region it’s from, the processing method used, and the date that it was roasted.”

Kristy aka K-MAC, Besties Café + Floozy Roastery, Newcastle, Australia.

Know your beans

Where do you start? Farmers grow many different coffee varieties across the Coffee Belt, which includes producing countries in South and Central America, the Caribbean, Central and East Africa, and Asia.

Each origin and variety brings something unique to the cup. Part of the joy of specialty coffee is having the ability to experiment with different beans from all around the world, and finding out what you like.

However, when you’re buying coffee beans to use at home, the most important thing is making sure that they are fresh – try to brew your beans within 30 days of roasting.

This video will help you understand the factors come into play when selecting coffee beans so can make the right choices to make a great cup of coffee at home.
